How long does Child Sponsorship last?

Submitted by Vuong.Hai.Son_124112 on

Ideally, Child Sponsorship is a long-term commitment lasting for the duration of our work in a particular community, which typically lasts for 10-15 years.

But how long child sponsorship lasts will be different for each sponsor. Some sponsors join us at the beginning of our work in their sponsored child’s community and others join us towards the end.

Sponsorship can end for a number of reasons. These include:

Why does World Vision Singapore need to increase the child sponsorship monthly contribution in 2025?

Submitted by Vuong.Hai.Son_124112 on

For over 40 years, World Vision Singapore has been contributing towards uplifting communities in our area programmes over a 10 to 15 year period through holistic community-focused interventions that provide access to water, nutrition, education, child protection and sustainable livelihoods.

How does Child Sponsorship work?

Child Sponsorship works very simply! Your monthly recurring donation will provide your sponsored child, his/her family and community with basic needs, love and care through your sponsorship support. In turn, you will receive annual progress updates and can even correspond with your child.

A child’s life is transformed through your sponsorship!

How can I be sure my donations are really benefiting the community?

At World Vision, we consider every donation a sacred trust. Therefore, as part of our stewardship, we optimise the funds, resources and distribute them to where they are needed most in the communities we are helping. We carefully monitor and review our programmes and costs periodically, making sure the funds are achieving the highest possible impact in the lives of the children and families. For financial accountability, we are audited by external and independent auditors, KPMG Singapore for the Singapore office.

How much of the sponsorship amount actually goes to the child? How do you allocate the funds among the five key sectors?

Submitted by Vuong.Hai.Son_124112 on

A maximum 20% of the S$50 is allocated for communication, public education and administrative costs. The remainder of your contribution is then allocated according to the needs of the community where your sponsored child is from. Some of the aspects that determine the use of the sponsorship contribution are ready infrastructure, traditions and culture, natural resources, and a community’s development phase. Depending on the level of necessity and development chronology, funds will be channelled to develop each area at varying amounts and at different stages.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Submitted by Vuong.Hai.Son_124112 on

No, all donations to World Vision Singapore are non-tax-deductible. World Vision is registered as a foreign charity with the Commissioner of Charities. The policy set by the Singapore Government requires that only gifts or donations to local charities with IPC* status are entitled to tax-deductions. (*Institution of Public Character)

How can I apply for General Interbank Recurring Order (GIRO)?

Submitted by Vuong.Hai.Son_124112 on

Please note that bank fees and charges may be applicable and vary among banks.

As the banks usually take 4 to 6 weeks to process your GIRO application, you may want to send us a cheque of $50 payable to "World Vision International" for your first month's contribution if you wish to start the sponsorship right away.
