Funyula is located in the western part of Kenya. 64% of the population live in absolute poverty. Most families depend on agriculture and fishing for livelihood. Children are at high risk of abuse and exploitation due to limited protection and access to education, with an illiteracy rate of 24.7%. Inadequate healthcare, clean water, and sanitation contribute to preventable diseases such as malaria and diarrhoea.

Through Child Sponsorship, your support can help families in Funyula strengthen livelihood so their children can go to school, grow up healthy, and build a brighter future.

“We came face to face with the dire conditions the vulnerable families had to contend with. The family of five which I visited lived in a mud house that was so small. It leaked when it rained, so they had to stand and fold up the mattresses to keep them dry. The man of the family was struggling to take care of the family. When asked what they wished for, the man replied that their hope was for their children to be educated so that they could have good jobs and a better life. Our trip was a stark reminder that the world was not created equal. We saw first-hand how World Vision’s vision of holistic transformation was put into action and were reminded that there are people out there who require our assistance to make life a little bit more bearable.”

“I would like to thank World Vision for supporting us with dignity kits. Before I received the dignity kit, I had problems getting enough sanitary pads, and I used to be absent from school for several days, which affected my studies. I also could not get soap for bathing and washing my clothes, as my parents could not afford them. The provision of the dignity kits has really helped us address the issues of menstrual hygiene that I and other girls face. We also feel empowered to continue our education without interruption and work toward achieving our dreams,”
