Twice they've had to leave their home. But for a mother and her son, the pain is still the same. Elena and her son, Nikolay, escaped Ukraine two weeks ago. A university dorm-turned shelter has provided them a safe place to stay in Bucharest, Romania.

World Vision’s humanitarian response to increase 10-fold within two months to meet the rapidly growing needs of vulnerable children and adults displaced and affected by the conflict.

Since birth, 2-year-old Rahima has had cleft lip and palate. Due to the prolonged drought, her family lost their agricultural lands and livestock and they had no source of income. On the verge of death, Rahima was saved with the surgery that has cured her condition and she is now able to eat well. 

World Vision is deeply concerned at the reversal of the Taliban's commitment to allowing children, regardless of their gender to attend school. Education is a fundamental right for children, including adolescent girls, which must be upheld. World Vision is committed to promoting education for all children in Afghanistan and to this end appeal to those in authority not to deprive girls of their rights to education.

Life has always been hard for the Rakhine population, but it has only been made worse by the recent military coup in February 2021. Coupled with a second wave of Covid-19 and a crippled economy, families in Rakhine state live in constant fear and are struggling to access basic necessities and feed their children.
