Antique is a province located in the western part of Panay Island in the Western Visayas region. 26% live below the national poverty line. Families depend on farming and fishing to earn an income. Low income levels lead to children dropping out of school to work as child labourers. The province has the highest rate of malnutrition in the region, impacting children’s learning ability.
"These children are so eager to learn, to have an education, no matter the distance they have to walk. These children just look forward to going to school even when the classroom isn’t really conducive for learning. You see one big room partitioned and you see echoes of different classes interrupting you. I can imagine how hard is it for teachers to organize lessons for kids to learn. I really really want to do something for them"
